Safari Park Part Deux

There's no telling how many posts I will have of our adventures at the SD Safari Park.  I love that we have year passes to the SD Zoo and this awesome park is a part of the zoo.  We went to check out the butterfly house with the Estes family and had a great time.  The house is only open for about 6 weeks in the spring and we went the last week it was open.  Getting there at 8:00 am when it opened was a must since we had heard how crowded it can get even if you wait until 8:30.  All the butterflies were beautiful, but we all agreed that the Blue Morpho was our favorite.

Seriously, with the face.  We are in TROUBLE!!

Deep in thought

Partners in crime.  They were mesmerized!

Hoping and waiting so patiently for a butterfly to land on their fingers.

Had to go on the Safari tram!

Quick Getaway

When Chris is attached to an Infantry Battalion, you just never know when you will get a moment away.  Especially when they are gearing up for a 9 to 10 month deployment leaving this summer.  When he came home the week before Easter and said that he wanted to go fishing or camping, we jumped at the chance.
We looked into going to Julian, the little town where we went apple picking back in the fall.  Only an hour and a half from here, but such different view. Mountains, lakes, and cold weather.  We decided not to camp due to the fact that the lows temps were going to be in the 30's and we rented a little place by a lake (more like a pond) so that we could fish.  It was wonderful.  Just two days away, but so nice just to be away together.

We also stopped in Julian, shopped around, and went panning for gems.  The town reminds me of Dahlonega, GA were Chris and I went to college.  We will definitely go back and this time stop for more pie!!!  They are famous for their pie shops.

The Great Snail Race

We have snails in our yard.  LOTS of snail.  And the kids just love them.  Hannah will pick them up and "play" with them for over an hour.  This particular day, all the kiddos collected snails from all over the yard and we had a race.  Nothing more exciting than watching a snail race.  Ha!
We lined them all up and picked our snails. And we cheered them on.  If one of the neighbors had been watching us, they probably think we had lost our minds. Hannah's snail made it to the finish line first.
I think we may have a new family tradition.

Puppets

What's not to love about a field trip??  Especially one that involves a trip to San Diego, puppets, and our friends.  We all really enjoyed the show put on by the Children's Puppet Theatre at Balboa Park.
They retold an old Grimm Fairy tale using marionettes.  The show was just under half and hour and we played on some great climbing trees once the show was done.
Successful field trip.  I think so!!!

The theatre had a great gift shop and we bought a few puppets of our own.

Many shows have been produced and inspired by our little trip.
