Coffee Talk

I sit here in my pjs, drinking my second cup of coffee, and enjoying every second of these slow mornings that will be gone in just a few weeks. Summer is coming to a close. The backpacks and lunch boxes are being dusted off, soccer sign ups have been done, registering for Tae Kwon Do (sp?) is this week, and the school shoes have been purchased.

I am sad to see the summer end. I have loved every minute of having everyone at home with me. I think we have gone swimming at least 5 days out of every week, read a million library books, colored, played board games, watched 5,000 episodes of Scooby Doo and The Pink Panther, and had nothing to do but just enjoy being together for almost 2 and a half months. Yes, there are times when we all are a little tired of each other, but all in all it has been a very fun summer.

My emotions get the best of me when I think about school starting. I am so excited for both Luke and Hayley, but school reminds me that they are growing up way too fast. Luke is beyond thrilled to be headed to the BIG elementary school for 1st grade. He can't wait to get on that bus, eat lunch at school and go to P.E. My heart sinks thinking that this will be the first time in 7 years that we haven't had lunch together. I know he is ready, but I'm just not sure that I am.

Hayley is headed to Kindergarten. I am so thankful to be sending her to the same school and that she will have the same teacher that Luke had last year. Mrs. Wallen is WONDERFUL! My mind has a hard time wrapping around that fact that she is really starting Kindergarten. She was the baby of the family for 4 years and it doesn't seem possible that we are at this huge milestone with her. She too is more than ready. I know she will have a great year.

Hannah Beth is not going to school (thank goodness), but we are less than 3 months away from her 1st birthday. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???? God has been putting so much on my heart these days but I hear Him say so often, "Stop and enjoy these moments. Don't worry about the laundry or the dishes, go play with them, go swim with them, go snuggle with them...." So that is what I have been doing.

I am going to enjoy every last second of this summer. So here's to the last days of summer and my last sip of coffee this morning out of one of my favorite mugs. The mug says it all.........

  1. Oh, Mary! I so understand. Yesterday was Jessa's first full day back at school, and my house felt so EMPTY! I also enjoy the no schedule summer days when we can just enjoy each other. You are such a good Mommy! Thinking of y'all as this year gets underway. . .

  2. i just love this post!!! i too feel & see my kiddos getting too big before my eyes. how i pray and wish that i could be so positive and constructive with my last precious few days left of summer...alias the life of a military family, being mommy & daddy at the same time- i feel i just haven't given them my best. (deep sigh) i hope that the start of the school yr will give me the much needed lower kid/ mommy ratio (if only for a short while) to be the mommy i hope & need to be to these rascals. here's to a great start to the school yr and better things to come! hugs to you and the rest of the family!!!

  3. I just teared up reading this post. I am with you my friend. My laundry is piling a little bit more and dishes sit for a little longer but how can you say "not now baby" to a sweet little angel looking up at you holding a book saying, "mommy can you read this to me?" They are only with us for a short time. And one day they won't be there tugging on our pants-legs to snuggle. I heart you my friend. Sisters in Christ/love/history too! XO

  4. When you said "Coffee Talk," all I could think of was Mike Myers as Linda Richman on SNL..."Italian neo-nazis were neither Italian, nor Nazis. Discuss! I'm feeling veclempt! 555-4444!" Remember that?
